RECLAIM Project
On December 6, 2017, I and my creative co-lead Phyllis Boyd were awarded an Art Place America National Creative Placemaking Award. This award funded the RECLAIM Project, which seeks to use art as a vehicle to transform urban blight into beauty and community opportunity by addressing vacant properties, alternative economic opportunities for formerly incarcerated individuals and youth development. Checkout the project website to learn the details of this effort.
Students at Riverside School 44 were asked to draw their favorite neighborhood and/or house. This kindergarten class made a collage with everyone contributing their house.
Information gathered from this research and youth led neighborhood assessment laid the foundation for The RECLAIM Project.
ArtPlace America funded The RECLAIM Project, as well as hundreds of others across its 10 year effort to showcase how the arts can transform our society.
